In Beit Mery, the Maronite parish has two churches which, among the other ruins of the village,
constitute not just a historical richness but also a patrimonial and religious richness for
the Christian religion.
Saint Sassine was born in Korikos (Crete). He was
caught by the Wali of Farbata (military chief of the region) while riding an
untamed horse. Saint Sassine was tortured and imprisoned until the rise of
Emperor Constantine who freed him.
The Saint Sassine Church was built in 1910 on the remaining of a small
church which used to host local and foreign believers. It was told that
entering the church or passing under the huge oak tree near it heals people
from diseases. A building for the reception of condolences was built in 2003
near the church.
The annual anniversary of Saint Sassine is celebrated on 15th of
September.

Saint Georges Church
The martyr Georges was born in the village of Al-Lad in
Palestine. Saint Georges was raised in a Christian family and joined the
military in the days of Emperor Dioklisiyanos from 248 to 305 B.C. He
defended the Christian religion and fought the dragon, symbol of the devil.
He was murdered in 303 having his head cut.
The Saint Georges Church has been standing in the heart of Beit Mery since
1600. It is considered to be valuable ruin for Lebanon. Its restoration was
accomplished in 1976 with the collaboration of the Archeology Council.
The annual anniversary of Saint Georges is celebrated on the 23rd of
April.
